Sunday December 22 2013 – In addition to the two Mega Millions jackpot winners in Tuesday’s draw, 20 ticket holders matched all five main numbers to win $1 million each and some of these winners have already come forward to claim their prizes.
The Match 5 winning tickets were purchased in Delaware (1), Florida (2), Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Kentucky (1), Maryland (1), Michigan (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (2), New York (2), Ohio (1), South Carolina (1), Texas (1), West Virginia (1) and California (2). While the standard Match 5 prize is $1 million, the winning ticket holders from California won an enhanced prize of $2.6 million due to all non-jackpot lottery prizes in the state being paid out on a pari-mutuel basis.
One of the first Match 5 winners to claim their $1 million prize was Georgia resident Jesse Whitley from Bethlehem. Whitley, who works as air conditioning and heating repairman, discovered he had won $1 million when he checked his ticket online on Wednesday morning. The married father of one who has a second child on the way, purchased the winning Quick Pick ticket from CITGO Food Mart on Patrick Mill Road in Winder and has not yet decided what to do with his win.
The Match 5 winner from South Carolina has also come forward but, as he opted to remain anonymous, lottery officials have not released his name although they did confirm the winning $1 million ticket was purchased from the Bi-Lo store on Main Street, North Myrtle Beach. Speaking to the South Carolina Lottery, the winner said his wife had fainted after checking the numbers! He went on to say, “I’m blessed and so fortunate.”
Meanwhile, Delaware Lottery officials also confirmed that their winning Match 5 ticket has been claimed by 50 coworkers from the New Castle County company. The winning ticket was one of 250 Quick Pick tickets purchased by the syndicate from the ShopRite store on Plaza Drive, Newark. Each member of the syndicate will receive $20,000 before taxes.
With a large number of the $1 million prizes from Tuesday’s Mega Millions draw still waiting to be claimed, including the two California Lottery tickets, LotteryWorld advises that players check their tickets carefully from Tuesday’s draw and, if they are a winner, claim any prizes as soon as possible.
The CA Lottery has confirmed that their $2.6 million tickets were purchased from Fuller Liquor & Deli INC, San Diego and Square Bottle Liquor, Chula Vista.
