Arkansas Lottery Allocates More than $81 Million for Education

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery finished its 2014 fiscal year on a high note as it reported sales of over $411 million, of which $81 million will be used to create scholarships for students in the state. Lottery officials are extremely pleased by the news and hope that lottery revenue will continue to increase.

According to Lottery Director Bishop Woosley, “we’ve helped more than 135,000 Arkansas students to realize their potential for academic achievement.” Woosley praised the economic and social effects of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, adding that the scholarships generated by lottery revenue “will create a more educated workforce to attract new industry and high-skill, higher-paying jobs to our state.”

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery started in September 2009 and has brought in over $2.1 billion in ticket sales as of June 30th, 2014. Of this amount, over $497 million has been used to help support Arkansas residents who want to enroll in higher education. Net proceeds donated to education are expected to reach $500 million before the lottery’s fifth anniversary on September 28th, 2014.
