Lotto 6/49 Offers Canada’s Biggest Ever Jackpot

Lottery fans in Canada, and those from the US who can make it over the border in time, are looking forward to their opportunity to snap up the country’s biggest ever lottery jackpot on Saturday night, when Lotto 6/49 will offer a top prize of CA$64 million. The game has rolled over 11 times since Saturday September 5, when a single ticket holder received a CA$7 million windfall.

A total of four Lotto 6/49 players shared the previous largest Canadian jackpot of CA$63.4 million on Saturday April 13th, 2013. In addition, a syndicate of 12 workers from Canadian Black Book in Toronto recently banked CA$60 million in Friday September 25’s Lotto Max draw, the country’s biggest win on a single ticket to date.

Lotto 6/49 requires players to match six main numbers from a choice of 49 to win the top prize when the game is drawn on Wednesday and Saturday. Awards are made for matching two main numbers upwards and a Bonus Ball increases the prize won by ticket holders who match two or five main numbers. Tickets cost CA$3 each and every line you play generates a code for the Guaranteed Prize Draw, in which one player will win CA$1 million.

Players who live in the US can visit Canada and legally buy tickets for lottery games, but you will usually be required to return to the province in which the purchase was made to claim any prizes you win. Canadian lottery prizes are not taxed within the country, but US citizens will be liable for withholdings at home should they win big.

If you are planning on grabbing a few Lotto 6/49 tickets for Saturday’s draw, keep your fingers tightly crossed for a record-breaking CA$64 million win this weekend. Good luck!
