Mega Millions Jackpot Balloons To $145 Million

Mega Millions NewsWednesday September 18 2013 – For the fifteenth consecutive time, Mega Millions finds no jackpot winner, despite people turning up in hordes to buy tickets for Tuesday night’s rollover draw.

No-one successfully matched the winning numbers 6, 15, 27, 31, 39 and 25, and the prize now carries over to Friday’s draw with an estimated $145 million at stake.

Twelve winners from Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia did manage to match five balls, each scooping $250,000.

Players with a nose for big jackpots will also know that tonight’s Powerball top prize is set to hit $400 million, the fifth highest amount in US lottery history. With over 50 million tickets sold for the last Friday’s $317 million prize, it’s almost guaranteed that there’ll be many more dealt out for this draw. When the Powerball’s jackpot hit $590.5 million in May, over 232 million were bought, and the mammoth amount was finally claimed by Gloria McKenzie of Florida.

Millionaire Raffle

Giuseppe Anelli (pictured right), of Addison, says he forgot all about his Millionaire Raffle ticket he bought for the 4th of July draw. Upon looking in the vehicle’s drawer only two weeks ago, he spotted the ticket and took it to a gas station to have it scanned, where he was advised to file a claim. Giuseppe and his wife plan to pay off the mortgage and set up college funds for their three children with the newfound fortune.

Lucky lottery winners accidently win £1m playing EuroMillions Millionaires Raffle

Euro Millions NewsLucky lottery winners Claire McManus and Scott Connah, a couple from Connah’s Key in Flintshire, North Wales accidently win £1m playing EuroMillions Millionaires Raffle following a fortunate but friendly mix-up.

They won one of the 25 guaranteed £1m raffle prizes on the New Year’s Day EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle draw.  Claire and Scott, both 30 and with three young children, had asked one of their friends to buy a scratchcard for them at the shop.

Lucky but confused friend

What happened next could best be described as destiny; the friend misunderstood and somehow mistakenly bought what turned out to be one of the winning EuroMillions raffle tickets.  They are not regular players of the EuroMillions and have preferred to play scratchcards.  Claire said:

“This is the best misunderstanding I’ve ever had.  The news is still sinking in…When we had the ticket confirmed as a winning raffle number the lady from Camelot said to me, ‘congratulations, you’re a millionairess’ and I just sat on the floor, laughed and cried. I haven’t slept since we won!”

Spot the difference

An example of a typical EuroMillions ticket and a scratchcard – can you tell the difference?

Check your tickets, you never know?

Claire went to bed on New Year’s Day then Scott called her down suggesting they should check the raffle number.  She said:

“I checked it, and checked it again, and then asked Scott to check it, and then we got my parents to check it. We just couldn’t believe it was real…The funny thing is, we took our Christmas decorations down that day which a friend told me was bad luck, but I think I’ll do it again next year!”

Plans for the future

Claire and Scott are planning a luxury family holiday and said they have already started looking at buying their own home.

Lottery WorldLottery News and Results from around the world. The Spanish Lotería del Niño 2013: a total of €840 million ($1.1 billion) has been paid out in this year’s Lotería del Niño (The Child Lottery), which is named after the baby Jesus and is second only to the Lotería de Navidad with a prize fund of over €2 billion.  The draw takes place on the Feast of the Epiphany, Sunday 6th January 2013 a day which according to tradition the baby Jesus was visited by three kings bearing gifts.

Primer Primio (First Prize) – €2 million

The €2 million first prize has been won by ticket number 30875 and has been shared amongst winners from five regions, Alicante, Leon, Madrid, Murcia and Tenerife.

Segundo Primero (Second Prize) – €1 million

The second prize of €1 million has been won by ticket number 46 674, sold in the towns of Albacete, Banyeres de Mariola (Alicante), Almeria, Guareña (Badajoz), Cala Ratjada ( Mallorca), Palma de Mallorca, Badalona (Barcelona), Torrelavega (Cantabria), Azuqueca de Henares (Guadalajara), San Emiliano (León), Madrid, Murcia and Valladolid Lugo.

Full Prize Breakdown

How to play Lotería del Niñoto

A whole ticket for the Lotería del Niño is made up of ten parts, each with the same number.  Players can buy any number of parts for €20 each or they can buy the whole ticket for €200.  A common way to play is to buy a whole ticket as a family, friend or co-worker syndicate.

The first prize winning ticket is worth €2 million, that’s €200,000 for each part.  If one person owns the whole ticket, all ten parts, then they will receive the whole prize.  If the ticket is not owned by a single person then each part receives €200,000 for every part of the ticket they own – one part = €200,000; 2 parts = €400,000, 3 parts = €600,000 and so on and so on…The odds of winning a prize are very good with 1 in 3 ticket holders guaranteed to win something.

However, there is a catch this year.  Due to austerity measures put in place by the government intended to stimulate Spain’s economy, anyone who wins above €2,500 has to pay 20% income tax on their winnings.
