July 9th Powerball Winner Claims $124.9 Million Prize

A resident of Conneaut, Ohio has finally stepped forward to claim a Powerball jackpot prize worth $124.9 million. Mary Ann Thompson, who beat odds of 175,223,510 to 1 to win the jackpot, said that the prize was “a real blessing” and that she and her husband will use their new wealth to help out their family members. She bought the ticket at the True North convenience store in advance of the draw held on 9th July 2014 and the Ohio Lottery confirmed the details of winner in the last 24 hours. Powerball officials had been reaching out to residents of the town, located in Ashtabula County near the Pennsylvania border, ever since they revealed where the winning ticket had been sold.

Mary Ann chose the cash lump sum option and received $51.9 million after federal and state taxes were deducted.  Mary Ann has chosen not to speak to the media about her win and has asked that her privacy be respected.

This is the second major lottery win in Ashtabula County this summer, with another lucky winner picking up a $73 million prize after buying a Classic Lotto ticket in Ashtabula Township in late June and ending an amazing two and a half year run of roll overs. After claiming the cash option, the winner took home $26 million and placed it in a trust fund.
