Tennessee Ticket Holder Scoops $259.8 Million Powerball Jackpot

Powerball NewsOne lucky resident in Tennessee has become the state’s largest ever lottery winner after waltzing off with a Powerball jackpot worth $259.8 million.

All that is known so far is that the lucky winner purchased the winning ticket in Knoxville.  Although the retail store where the ticket was purchased hasn’t yet been named, the owner of the store will be sharing in the good fortune as a retailer bonus will be awarded for selling the winning ticket.

This is not the first time this year that lottery luck has struck in Tennessee as, back in January, Tina Still and son Jonathan, both of Nashville, scooped a $61 million Mega Millions prize.  Tina and Jonathan waited a week before claiming their prize and curiosity will be rife until the identity of the Powerball winner is revealed.

These two wins come after a staggering nine years without a jackpot winner as it was back in 2005 when the last jackpot winner, a family from South Pittsburgh, won a top prize worth $25.5 million.

The Powerball winner may not yet know they are sitting on a fortune so officials are advising all players who purchased a ticket in Knoxville for last night’s drawing to check their numbers immediately.  The winner should then sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place until they claim their prize.  The player would also be wise to seek financial and legal advice.

As all Tennessee jackpot winners are required to claim their prize publicly, the wait is now on for the winner to come forward.  LotteryWorld.com will bring you the latest on this story as it unfolds.
